A Thousand Brains by Jeff Hawkins

I have almost finished reading this book about Jeff Hawkins theories and research into a very plausible algorithm for how the brain functions. And I really like the theory. He talks about how the brain creates models of reality through it’s connections between the body’s sensors, the old brains and the neo-cortex. It works through physical structures called cortical columns and neural structures called reference frames and it achieves consciousness through constant model updating via physical and sensor movement.

Yet, Hawkins makes initial assertions such as that there is no God, consciousness is an emergent property of brain function and that Darwin evolution is the only biological truth. He and Dawkins, who wrote the introduction, really denigrate anyone who believes in dualism and a spiritual realm. Without a spirit to survive the body’s death, he is supportive of our bodies legacy through computer uploading of the brain and brain-computer interface.

I can’t help judging these atheistic scientists who believe that scientism is the only reality. I can’t help but gloat when someone like Sagan and Hitchens passes into their unknown realm, “waking up’ in disbelief and (my) hoping they are spending their time crying over their massive mistake in not believing in God and their leading thousands into atheistic hell – whatever that may be.

Proverbs 3:7 says don’t be wise in your own eyes but to fear the Lord and turn away from evil.

Proverbs 1:7 says Fear of the Lord is the Beginning of knowledge and that you are a fool if you despise this wisdom.

And of course John 3:16 tells us that we who believe will inherit eternal life – exactly what atheists want but without any spiritual aspects of a God that they must obey. I think that these scientism types are really hung up on having to bow down to something bigger than their own egos.
